Geertje Roettger, 83, of Hillsboro died Feb. 28, 2026. Originally from the Netherlands, Mrs. Roettger became a U.S. citizen on Aug. 2, 1974. She retired from the Division of Probation and Parole in Hillsboro. She enjoyed volunteering at the Hillsboro Food Pantry, gardening, traveling and eating dark chocolate. She was born on Aug. 12, 1942.
She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 60 years: Gerald E. Roettger.
She is survived by two sisters: Carla Russ and Marianne Mattijsen; a son: Peter (Sandy) Roettger of Hillsboro; and four grandchildren: Ashley Jones of Hillsboro, Stephanie (Devon) Scott of Bonne Terre, Bradley Roettger of Hillsboro and Rebecca Roettger of Hillsboro.
She also was preceded in death by a sister: Pietertje Mattijsen.
Mrs. Roettger was cremated. A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
