Frederick Gale Skaggs, 88, of Festus died April 15, 2026, at his home. Mr. Skaggs worked for Quality Dairy, IGA, Stoplight Market and was a retired deliveryman for Hostess Bakery. He was a member of Our Lady Catholic Church in Fesus and Knights of Columbus Council 1230 in Crystal City and had served as a cook in the Army National Guard. Born Oct. 24, 1937, in Crystal City, he was the son of the late Matilda Mary (Schuh) and Earl Henry Skaggs.
He was preceded in death by his wife: Diane (Kreitler) Skaggs.
He is survived by two sons: Michael (Stephanie) Skaggs of St. Charles and Daniel (Vickie) Skaggs of Festus; a daughter: Debra Skaggs of Festus; a grandson: Cole Skaggs; and a brother: Monte (the late Anna) Skaggs of Eureka.
He also was preceded in death by three brothers: Robert “Poogie” (Mary survives of Festus) Skaggs, David (Cindy survives of Bowling Green, Ky.) Skaggs and Bruce (Judy survives of Fernandina Beach, Fla.) Skaggs.
Services will be private. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home in Festus.
