Brake, Frankie

Frankie R. Brake, 91, of Eureka died June 19, 2024, in Fenton. Mrs. Brake was a homemaker, a babysitter for more than 60 years and a charter member of Ballwin Baptist Church. Her heritage was deeply rooted in Shannon County where her grandfather was co-builder of the Story's Creek Schoolhouse and the lead carpenter of the construction of the Alley Mill. She attended a one-room schoolhouse in Munsell and later attended Eminence High School. She enjoyed singing in the church choir and going to bluegrass shows and music festivals to watch her husband, Paul, perform. She also enjoyed traveling across the country with her husband and spending time with her family and friends. Born March 8, 1933, in Winona, she was the daughter of the late Martha Ann (Terrill) and Grover C. Wilson.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 74 years: Paul H. Brake whom she married on Feb. 5, 1949, in Salem, Ark.

She is survived by two children: David (Kim) Brake of Leslie and Ronald (Sheri) Brake of Eureka; eight grandchildren: Scott (Dana) Brake of Kansas City, Seth Brake of Mt. Vernon, Conner Brake of Republic, Sarah Brake of Fulton, Paul (Lauren) Brake of Union, James (Betsy) Brake of Cape Girardeau, Justin (Candice) Brake of Lake Charles, La., and Kristin (Doug) Hancock of Eureka; and eight great-grandchildren: Benjamin Brake of Kansas City, Aiden Faison of Fulton, Kelsey, Kodey and Karsyn Brake, all of Union, Rebekah Brake of Cape Girardeau and Luca and Beatrice Hancock, both of Eureka.

She was preceded in death by a child: Richard “Randy” Brake; two siblings: Willard Wilson and Margie (Wilson) Giammanco; and a grandson: John A. Brake.

A celebration of life is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, at Victorian Gardens Chapel, 15 Hilltop Village Center Drive, in Eureka, officiated by Ronald Brake. Burial will be in Leslie Zion Methodist Church in Leslie.
