Eugene R. “Gene” Tacony, 63, of Cedar Hill died Aug. 5, 2025, in Chester, Ill. Mr. Tacony was a natural problem solver, and he applied his skills in his work and for his family and friends. He was known to give his fullest effort and often showed those around him that common sense and a willingness to try could get the job done. During his career, his leadership enabled him to organize any team and earned the respect of those who worked alongside him. He valued hard work, honest people and a good joke. He will be remembered by his friends for offering a helping hand and a good laugh. He loved classic cars, music and fishing. He was happiest on the water, in his garage or with his family and friends. Born July 25, 1962, in St. Louis, he was the son of Mildred (Johnson) Tacony and Albert Tacony.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years: Dawn (Whitener) Tacony of Cedar Hill; two sons: Nicholas (Michelle) Tacony and Brian (Pebbles)Tacony; three grandsons: Morrison, Thomas and Theodore Tacony; and three siblings: Nannette Wills, Albert (Judy) Tacony and Michael (Sandy) Tacony.
He was preceded in death by his younger brother: Robert Tacony.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Kutis South County Chapel in St. Louis County.
