Doris Sturgeon, 89, of Arnold died Sept. 9, 2025, in Springfield. Mrs. Sturgeon was a homemaker, seamstress and arts and crafts specialist. She also was a 40-year member of Grace Free Will Baptist Church, where she served in the choir, VBS and the women’s ministry. She made hundreds of quilts to be distributed to foster children and others in need. She enjoyed volunteering at the Treasure Shoppe/Gateway Food Pantry in Arnold, gardening, making floral arrangements and spending time with her family and friends. She will be remembered for her warm smile and caring personality. Born Sept. 14, 1935, in Advance, she was the daughter of the late Lois (Hahn) and Merl Shell.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years: Charles Sturgeon.
She is survived by two children: Gordon (Tammie) Sturgeon of House Springs and Beverly (David) Smith of Springfield; a sibling: Jerry (Marilyn) Shell of Bentonville, Ark.; six grandchildren: Christopher Wilkins of Arcata, Calif., Danielle (Jonathan) White of St. Peters, Jessica Sturgeon of House Springs, Cameron (Lauren) Wilkins of De Soto, Jennifer (Jacob) Schneider of Springfield and Aaron Sturgeon of Chesterfield; and five great-grandchildren: Elizabeth and Isabelle White of St. Peters, Eliza and Emerson Schneider of Springfield and Shiloh Wilkins of De Soto.
She was preceded in death by a child: Ronald Sturgeon.
Visitation is scheduled from 9:30 a.m. until services at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, at Grace Free Will Baptist Church, 2258 Tenbrook Road, in Arnold, officiated by the Rev. Jackson Watts. Burial will take place Monday, Sept. 22, in the National Cemetery at Jefferson Barracks. Memorials may be made to the Women’s Ministry (WAC) at Grace Free Will Baptist Church or to the Treasure Shoppe/Gateway Food Pantry in Arnold. Arrangements are under the direction of Heiligtag-Lang-Fendler Funeral Home in Arnold.
