Doris L. Wolfmeyer, 87, of St. Charles died June 5, 2025, at The Landing of O’Fallon in St. Charles. Mrs. Wolfmeyer graduated from Miss Hickey’s School for Secretaries in St. Louis. She and her husband moved to Lawrence, Kan., where he continued his education and Doris worked as a secretary at KU. They later moved to Jefferson County in 1967, and both began working at Jefferson College in Hillsboro. She worked in several departments at the college and was asked to return part-time after her retirement. She was a lifelong Lutheran and was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in De Soto. She was also a member of WELCA at Redeemer. She enjoyed playing bridge and, in her retirement, joined a couple of bridge groups. She also became an avid Cardinal baseball fan, recording the wins and losses on her Cardinal calendar and texting her daughters the game results. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family. She was known for remembering the birthdays of her many nieces and nephews and for being delighted to hear about her grandchildren’s lives. Born Feb. 5, 1938, in St. Louis, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Iris (Miller) Feranec.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Vern L. Wolfmeyer, whom she married on Aug. 28, 1965, in St. Louis.
She is survived by two daughters: Lori (James) Weber of Wentzville and Sara (Nathan) Place of O’Fallon; four grandchildren: Kyle (Emily) Weber of Littleton, Colo., Kaitlyn Weber of Wentzville and Alyssa and Conner Place of O’Fallon; a brother: Jerry (Vikki) Feranec of Moscow Mills; and many other family members and friends.
She also was preceded in death by two sisters: Peggy Wareing and Sharon Gelzheiser; and a brother: Joel Feranec.
Visitation is scheduled from 9 a.m. until a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 19, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1620 Boyd St., in De Soto, officiated by the Rev. Dr. G. Michael Rose. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in De Soto. Memorials may be made to the Doris & Vern Wolfmeyer Memorial Scholarship, c/o Jefferson College Foundation, 1000 Viking Drive, Hillsboro, 63050. Arrangements are under the direction of Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home in De Soto.
