Anderson, Dora

Dora Mae Anderson, 90, of Herculaneum died Oct. 24, 2023, at her home. Mrs. Anderson was a lifelong member of the Buren Chapel A.M.E. Church in Herculaneum, where she served as a mother of the church, steward and bereavement committee chairperson for more than 50 years. She was a homemaker and beautician. She dedicated her life to her family and friends, showing her love by cooking meals, baking and helping to raise and care for many children and grandchildren over the years. Dora enjoyed crocheting, listening to blues music and shopping at the flea market and thrift stores. Born March 6, 1933, in Shirley, she was the daughter of the late Malissa (Wells) and Richard Manning.

She is survived by six children: Rita Washington of Herculaneum, Lawatha Spicer of St. Louis, Darlene Anderson of Herculaneum, Bruce Anderson of Herculaneum, Keith Anderson Sr. of Herculaneum and Steven (Rachel) Anderson of Herculaneum; a sister: Charlene Townsend of Festus; a brother: George (Dorothy) Manning of Florissant; a special cousin: Lawrence Casey of Herculaneum; eight grandchildren Chanel Alexander, Cortez (Jennifer) Frank, Tia Washington, Keith Anderson Jr., Candice Anderson, Ethan Pope, Victoria Duncan and Austin Anderson; three great-grandchildren: Ty Alexander, Ian Jordan and Hendrix Pope; and numerous family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by four brothers: Robert Manning, Dual Manning, Ben Manning and Alfred (Clara) Manning; a sister: Mary (Leroy) Alexander; and a grandson: Kevin Anthony Anderson.

Visitation is scheduled from 4-7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3, at Vinyard Funeral Home, 616 W. Main St., in Festus. Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, at the funeral home, officiated by the Rev. Claudine Murphy. Burial will be in Rankin Memorial Cemetery in Herculaneum. Memorials may be made to the Buren Chapel A.M.E. Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home.
