Donald Harlan Wagner, 77, of Crystal City died Feb. 16, 2026, at Mercy South Hospital in St. Louis County. Mr. Wagner served in the U.S. Air Force. He retired after 40 years working as a supervisor for PPG. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, a past commander of the VFW Post 3777 and a life member of Twin City Amvets Post 171. He enjoyed sports, especially watching the St. Louis Cardinals and the St. Louis Blues. Born Feb. 20, 1948, in St. Louis, he was the son of the late Dorothy “Jane” (Bierly) and Harlan Leon Wagner.
He is survived by a daughter: Kathryn E. Wagner of St. Louis; a brother: Doug (Martha) Wagner of St. Louis; a niece: Kristin Wagner and her sons, Jax of Klamath Falls, Ore., and Tyler (Sylvia Pinto) Wagner of McLean, Va.; a niece: Kayce (Derek) Carter and their children, Morgan, Lexi and Gavin of Amarillo, Texas; an aunt: Jane Wagner of Manchester; many cousins; a goddaughter: Kensi French of Festus; Kathryn’s extended family and friends; his friend from kindergarten: Josalyn Moran of St. Louis; his honorary daughter and granddaughters: Kate, Sylvia and Liv Hanes of St. Louis; his extended families at Kettlehut’s, Taytro’s, The Brick and Pogolino’s of Festus; and many friends in Festus/Crystal City, Maryland and Texas.
He was preceded in death by a brother: Robert Bruce Wagner.
A memorial gathering is scheduled from noon until 4 p.m. Sunday, March 8, at Vinyard Funeral Home, 616 W. Main St., in Festus. A memorial service is scheduled for 10:45 a.m. Monday, March 9, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 221 Brierton Lane, in Festus. Interment with full military honors will follow in the National Cemetery at Jefferson Barracks. Memorials may be made to a veteran’s organization of the donor’s choice. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home.
