Dixie Gale Richardson, 75, of Festus died Sept. 19, 2026, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. Mrs. Richardson was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Crystal City. She had several careers throughout her life, including as a real estate agent, a hairdresser and an office assistant. In those roles, she was known for bringing her balance of knowledge, compassion and ability to help others be the best version of themselves. She loved her family and friends, gave generously and was considered a source of strength for those who needed her. She was also known for her enormous heart, contagious laugh and comforting presence. She loved and rescued countless animals. She never believed there was such a thing as “too many,” because to her, animals deserved to feel safe, loved and spoiled. She will be remembered for her love, strength and compassion. Born Oct. 24, 1950, in Festus, she was the daughter of the late Nancy Ann (Cooper) and Theodore Winfred “Ted” DeClue.
She is survived by her husband: Kevin Richardson; a daughter: Tana (Doug) White of Festus; a son: Wade Smith of Festus; seven grandchildren: Macey, Kirsten (Aaron), Madison, Alison, Melaney, Tyson and Jocelynn; and five great-grandchildren: Bentley, Camila, Daxton, Neovi and Asho.
A memorial gathering is scheduled from 4 p.m. until a memorial service at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, at Vinyard Funeral Home, 616 W. Main St., in Festus, officiated by Pastor Kyle Castens. Memorials may be made to Open Door Animal Sanctuary. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home.
