Deane Gerald Cramer, 92, of Festus died April 15, 2024, at his home. Mr. Cramer served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Fulton, a submarine tender during the Korean War. He was a retired engineer with PPG Industries at the Crystal City flat glass plant. He was the construction manager of a glass plant outside of Hong Kong that came in on record time and under budget. He was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed traveling in his Airstream and later his motor home, world history, camping in Colorado, taking trips to the springs and state parks of Missouri, enjoying nature and spending time with family. Born Sept. 18, 1931, in Champaign, Ill., he was the son of the late Geraldine (Beaumont) and Ralph E. Cramer.
He was preceded in death by his wife: Mary “Nancy” (Brown) Cramer.
He is survived by a son: David G. (Lavon) Cramer of Decatur, Ill.; five grandchildren: Micheala (Ben) Pietrowski, Tiffany (fiancé Roderick “Bo” Barrett) Cramer, Alecia Cramer, Cassidy Cramer and Abbey (Sam) Redman; nine great-grandchildren: Maddie Pietrowski, Austin Pietrowski, Kyle Cramer, Cierra Cramer, Nikolas Barrett, Chance Cramer, Bennett Lakebrink, Liam Redman and Lillian Redman; and a brother: Roy (Karen) Cramer of Decatur, Ill.
He also was preceded in death by a daughter: Laura Marie (Michael survives of S.C.) Martin; and a son and Daniel S. (Kristen survives of Festus) Cramer.
Visitation for Deane and his son, Daniel, is scheduled from 2-6 p.m. Sunday, April 21, at Vinyard Funeral Home, 616 W Main, in Festus. Services for Deane and Daniel are scheduled for 2 p.m., Monday, April 22, at the funeral home, officiated by Rev. Mark McMullin. Burial with full military honors for Deane will be in Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens in Crystal City. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
