
David Clayton Wood, 57, of Bloomsdale died Sept. 8, 2025, at Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Crystal City. Mr. Wood worked as a delivery driver for UPS and was a member of Teamsters Local 688. He loved playing the drums and had been playing since he was 3 years old. He played in various bands, his latest band being the Catalyst with his older brother, Dan, his best friend, Ben Bissell, and Austin Schoen. He loved spending time with his family, grilling barbecue and staying up late playing rummy or Yahtzee. He was an avid St. Louis Blues fan since the late 70s and was ecstatic when they won the Stanley Cup. Strong in his faith, he loved attending Second Baptist Church and spent a lot of time reading and spreading God’s word. Born Dec. 16, 1967, in St. Louis, he was the son of the late Evelyn Bernadine (Mullen) Wood and Gerald Thomas Wood.
He is survived by his wife: Rachel Ann (Miller) Wood; three children: Stephanie Marie (Carter Dinges) Wood of Park Hills, Andrew Clayton (Nutchaphatra) Wood of O’Fallon, Ill., and Kara Ann Wood of Festus; two grandchildren: Aiden Clayton Wood and Emma Rose Wood; two siblings: Dan (Karen) Wood of De Soto and Karen (David) Campbell of Bismarck; and many other family members and friends.
Visitation is scheduled from 10 a.m. until a service at noon Saturday, Sept. 13, at Second Baptist Church, 723 Horine Road, in Festus, officiated by Pastor James King. Interment will be in Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens in Crystal City. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home.
