Schingmann, Constance

Constance M. “Connie” (Chierek) Schlingmann, 81, of Hillsboro died May 30, 2024, at Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Crystal City. Mrs. Schlingmann was a longtime member of Good Shepherd and Our Lady Catholic Church. She gave her time to the Hillsboro community by organizing Safe Halloween, Safe Prom and other youth activities. She also was a longtime employee of the City of Hillsboro and a member of the Hillsboro Fire Protection District Auxiliary. She loved to quilt, garden and feed the birds and other animals that frequented her yard. Born December 8, 1942, in St. Louis, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Leona (Czarnopys) Chierek.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Robert W. Schlingmann.

She is survived by four sons: Robert W. "Bert" Schlingmann of Chicago, Ill., Michael (Michelle) Schlingmann of Sarasota, Fla., David (Andrea) Schlingmann of Denver, Colo., and Christopher (Erin) Schlingmann of Lake Charles, La.; a daughter: Mary (Chris) McKinney of Festus; five grandchildren: Ella, Zachary, Evan, Zoey and Eddie; two siblings: Pat Smith of Alton, Ill., and Bob (Celestine) Chierek of Festus; and many other family members and friends.

She also was preceded in death by a daughter: Christine Marie Schlingmann; two siblings: Mary Ploch and Leon Chierek; and two brothers-in-law: Clifford Smith and Ken Ploch.

Visitation is scheduled for 10 a.m. until a funeral Mass at noon Wednesday, June 5, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 703 3rd St., in Hillsboro. Mrs. Schlingmann requested to be cremated after services. She will be buried at Good Shepherd Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Robert D. Brown Funeral Home in Hillsboro.
