Charlotte Whaley, 92, of Festus died Jan. 13, 2025, at Hillcrest Nursing Center in De Soto. Mrs. Whaley was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Festus-Crystal City and the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a retired bookkeeper for Shapiro Bros. Recycling, Laiben Construction and Laiben Real Estate. Born Nov. 25, 1932, in Hematite, she was the daughter of the late Emma (Greenlee) and Augustus J. McDonnell.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Melvin Otto Whaley.
She is survived by two sons: Jeff Whaley of Festus and Joey (Melony) Whaley of Festus; seven grandchildren: Jodie (Scott) Seek, Jill Simpher, Jennifer Potter, Julie (Doug) Hinrichs, Jamie (Damon) Cornell, Jeanna (Jarrod) Vidacak and Joey (Sherri) Whaley II; 12 great-grandchildren: Brandon Cornell, Hailey Burt, Emily Nichols, Kaitlyn Tindall, Josh Bates, Andrew Tindall, Collin Burt, Destiny McCray, Dakota Hinrichs, Douglas Hinrichs Jr., Tyler Hinrichs and Christina Hinrichs; and 18 great-great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by a daughter: Janet Lee (Darrell survives) Dalton; and a sister: Dolores (the late Preston Sr.) Williams.
Visitation is scheduled from 10 a.m. until funeral services at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28, at Vinyard Funeral Home, 616 W. Main St., in Festus, officiated by the Rev. Dr. Tish Green, Pastor of First United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Presbyterian/Methodist Cemetery in Festus. Memorials may be made to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home.
