Charles David Richards, 82, of Imperial died Sept. 2, 2026. Mr. Richards graduated from Roosevelt High School with the Class of 1963. He dedicated many years of hard work to Chrysler before retiring in 2012. Retirement gave him more time to enjoy what made him happiest, especially continuing his collection of antique toys and watching movies. His collection was more than a hobby; it reflected his appreciation for nostalgia, memories and the simple things in life. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also loved Popeye the Sailor Man and his famous saying, “I Yam What I Yam.” He will be remembered as a man who was unapologetically himself and lived life in his own unique way.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years: Patricia Richards; a sister: Mary Ann Tinker; three children: Brenda (Phillip) Treis, Barbara (Robert) Richards and Scott (Jessie) Richards; seven grandchildren: Michael (Nicola), Matthew, Stephen, Colten, Keely (Brandon), Charlie and Jacob; two great-grandchildren: Layla and Josie; and extended family members: Bonnie, Becky, John, Starr, Jack, Nickolas, Nathan, Noah, Nina, Brandy and Brad.
He was preceded in death by his mother: Frances Nadine Rogers; and a brother: Larry Curtis Tinker.
Visitation is scheduled from 1 p.m. until services at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, at First Baptist Church Herculaneum-Pevely, 1315 Abbey Lane, in Pevely. Burial will take place at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 20, in Zion Lutheran Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of St. Louis Cremation.
