Carlton M. Kerr, 92, of De Soto died July 30, 2024, at Scenic View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Herculaneum. Mr. Kerr served in the U.S. Air Force. He began his career as a delivery man and later moved to the USPS as a postal carrier in Texas before transferring to St. Louis. He worked his way through the ranks to become assistant postmaster in Ballwin and De Soto. He later became postmaster in Hillsboro and eventually moved to postmaster in De Soto Mr. Kerr was an avid member of the Lions Club. One of his greatest joys was participating in the 101st Greater St. Louis Honor Flights to Washington D.C. to see all the military memorials. After retirement, he began his lifelong goal of being a traveler and avid fisherman. Born Jan. 15, 1932, in Marietta, Okla., he was the son of the late Robert and Freda (Hale) Kerr.
He is survived by his spouse: Billie Kerr of De Soto; four children: Sharon (Garth) Matthews, Shirley (Paul) Cline, Meckie (Ed) Trupka and Pam Hart; four siblings: David (June) Kerr, Jerry Kerr, Wanda Brewer and Dortha Woods; five grandchildren: Kim (Keith) Barrow, Steven (Amanda) Matthews, Andy Cline, Paul (Laura) Trupka and Matthew (Devon) Trupka; and eight great-grandchildren: Emerson, Tessa, Tripp, Tanner, Tate, Ellis, Brooks, and Kaia.
He was preceded in death by a son: Anthony Allen; and five siblings: James, Betty, Billy Van, Harry and Charles Wayne.
Visitation is scheduled from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, at Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home, 220 N. Main, in De Soto. A funeral service is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7, at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the National Cemetery at Jefferson Barracks. Memorials may be made to the Greater St. Louis Honor Flight, 8050 Watson Road, Suite 240, St. Louis, 63119. Arrangements are under the direction of Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home.
