Maschmeyer, Carl

Carl Edgar Maschmeyer, 87, of Waterloo Ill., died Sept. 16, 2023, at de Greeff Hospice House in St. Louis County. Mr. Maschmeyer served four years in the U.S. Navy, then attended college on the G.I. Bill. After graduation, he served 30 years in the U.S. Air Force, retiring as a lieutenant colonel. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Columbia, Ill., a lifetime member of NRA, an amateur radio enthusiast and an avid sportsman. Born Aug. 3, 1963, in Glen Ridge, N.J., he was the son of the late Dorothy and Carl F. Maschmeyer. He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years: Barbra (Wyland) Maschmeyer, whom he married on Aug. 23, 1959, in Long Island, N.Y.

He is survived by a son: Carl F. (Cynthia) Maschmeyer; several grandchildren, including Helen (Aaron) Maschmeyer-Douglas and Carl E.M. Maschmeyer; a special friend: Marjorie Drexler; as well as many other family and friends. He was preceded in death by a daughter: Erica Rutledge.

Visitation is scheduled for 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 20 at Leesman Funeral Home, 326 S. Main St., in Dupo, Ill. Visitation is from 10 a.m. until the funeral service at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 21, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 227 N. Good Haven, in Columbia, Ill., officiated by Pastor Steven Krenz. Burial will follow in St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Leesman Funeral Home.
