Mildred Sloan Hardin, 96, De Soto

Mildred Sloan Hardin, 96, of De Soto died Nov. 12, 2023, at Hillcrest Care Center in De Soto. Mrs. Hardin served the De Soto, Richwoods, and Good Shepherd school districts as a substitute teacher, and she spent many years as the organist for Trinity Episcopal Church. Born Feb. 22, 1927, in De Soto, she was the daughter of the late Oliver “Spot” and Golda (Kobel) Oker. She was preceded in death by her husbands: Sam Sloan and Vernon Hardin.

She is survived by three children: Steve (Carolyn) Sloan of De Soto, David (Rachell) Sloan of South County and Mark Sloan of De Soto; six grandchildren: Chad (Karen Mooney) Sloan, Jamie (Dewayne Smith) Sloan, Derrick Sloan, Phillip (Sonja) Sloan, Samantha Sloan and Sarah (Chris) Taylor; seven great-grandchildren: Zachary Sloan, Logan (Lyssa) Yancey, Nate Sloan, and Jackson, Iris, Emma and Rose Taylor; and a brother: Robert Oker of St. Louis.

She was preceded in death by two sisters: Betty Young and Janet Pinson; and a brother: George Oker.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15, at Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home, 220 N. Main, in De Soto. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 16, at the funeral home, officiated by Rev. Gene Moses. Burial will take place in Woodlawn Cemetery in De Soto. Memorials may be made to the De Soto Food Pantry, 705 E. Stone Dr., or the Trinity Episcopal Church, 202 Miller St., in De Soto, 63020. Arrangements are under the direction of Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home in De Soto.
