Helen G. Axley, 87, De Soto

Helen G. Axley, 87, of De Soto died Sept. 22, 2023, at Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Crystal City. Mrs. Axley was a homemaker. She worked with various businesses in sales and customer service. She enjoyed sewing, counter cross stitch, watching sports, bowling, crossword puzzles, sitting by the fireplace when it snowed, and spending time with family. Born Feb. 3, 1936, in De Soto, she was the daughter of the late Minnie (Bruedigam) and George Murphy Sr. She was preceded in death by her husband: James A. Axley.

She is survived by four children: Lynn (Dennis) McFarland of Henderson, Ky., Stan (Kaye) Axley of De Soto, Lisa (Eddie) Boyer of De Soto and Amy (Nick) Williams of Bethalto, Ill.; eight grandchildren: Sherida, Adam, Brent, Jason, Clint, Toni, Sonya and Vinny; 11 great-grandchildren: Lillian, Eli, Levi, Brynn, Rory, Samantha, Hailey, Desiree, Cody, Chloe and Lyla; and many other family members.

She was preceded in death by two sons: Randy Axley and Rickey Axley; two sisters and four brothers.

A memorial gathering will be from 11:30 a.m. until memorial service at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29, at Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home, 220 N Main, in De Soto. Burial will take place in Rose Lawn Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Arrangements are under the direction of Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home in De Soto.
