Lucas, Norvel

Norvel J. “Luke” Lucas, 94, of Omaha, Neb., formerly of De Soto, died Jan. 9, 2020. Mr. Lucas was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army, serving as a paratrooper in the

17th Airborne Division, 513th Parachute Infantry Regiment and earning two Bronze

Stars and a Purple Heart. He was born April 12, 1926, the son of the late John G. and Hulda (Simon) Lucas. He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years: Ruby E. Lucas.

He is survived by two sons: Warren Lucas of Lincoln, Neb., and Scott Lucas of Steelville; a daughter-in-law: Mary Lucas of Omaha; two granddaughters: Cara (Justin) Richt of Lincoln, Neb., and Erin (Aaron McKenzie) Lucas of Omaha; and a great-grandson: Ethan Lucas of Omaha.

He was preceded in death by two sisters: Beulah Alexander and Dorothy Braun.

Visitation is at 9 a.m. and a memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, at

Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home, 220 N. Main St., in De Soto. Burial is in the Hematite Methodist Cemetery, followed by a luncheon at the DeSoto Elks Lodge, 689 Clarke St., in De Soto. Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project. Arrangements are under the direction of Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home.
