Nancy Ann Bates, 67, of Festus, formerly of Imperial, died Jan. 15, 2015, at Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Crystal City. Mrs. Bates was a social worker and activity director at Sunset Hills Health and Rehabilitation Center in south St. Louis County. Born Oct. 1, 1947, in St. Louis, she was the daughter of Marion (Fischer) Scheiwe of Festus and the late Norbert Scheiwe.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband of 48 years: Ralph Bates; a daughter: Tina (Tony) Fischer of Festus; a son: Chris (Amy) Bates of High Ridge; a sister: Margie (Darryl) Sandweg of Wentzville; a brother: Tommy (Debbie) Scheiwe of Chattanooga, Tenn.; and seven grandsons: Nathan, Elliot and Carson Fischer and Zachary, Alex, Owen, Luke and Jacob Bates.
Funeral services were held Jan. 19 at Faith Baptist Church in Festus, with the Rev. Matt Culbertson officiating. Memorials may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s efforts towards a cure specifically for Type 1 diabetes at JDRF/Type 1, 50 Crestwood Executive Center, Suite 401, St. Louis, 63126. Arrangements were under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home in Festus.
