Mary Ruth (Pendergrass) Thurman, 79, of Hillsboro died Sept. 14, 2017, at her home. Mrs. Thurman was a retired mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service and a member of Highland Baptist Church. She loved to read, garden, and visit with her grandkids. Born Feb. 16, 1938, in Bernie, she was the daughter of the late Ruby Mae (Cole) and Ira Huron Pendergrass. She was preceded in death by her husband: Jerry L. Thurman.
She is survived by three sons: Michael L. (Judy) Thurman of St. Peters, Patrick E. (Robin) Thurman of Hillsboro and Greg R. Thurman of Hillsboro; a daughter: Susan M. (George) Mihaljevic of Waterloo, Ill.; two brothers: Frank D. Pendergrass and Robert L. Pendergrass; 13 grandchildren; and 14-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother: John P. Pendergrass.
Visitation is at 11 a.m. and a funeral service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 19, at Robert D. Brown Funeral Home, 103 Fourth Street, in Hillsboro. Burial is in the Peaceful Meadows Cemetery in Hillsboro. Memorials may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Arrangements are under the direction of Robert D. Brown Funeral Home.
