Mary Jane Russell, 93, Hillsboro

Mary Jane Russell, 93, of Hillsboro died July 3, 2022, in Herculaneum. She was retired after working for more than 30 years as a secretary for the Hillsboro R-3 School District superintendent and board. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Hillsboro and enjoyed volunteering at church and helping her friends and neighbors. Born Aug. 9, 1928, in Belleview, she was the daughter of the late Rose (Lester) and Alfred Horton.

She is survived by her son: Dennis (Beth Vreeland) Russell of Festus; her granddaughter: Amy D. (Marcus) Long of Kansas City; two great-grandchildren: Leila and Jackson; and a sister: Martha Ann Berry of Louisville, Ky.

She was preceded in death by her grandson: Daniel K. Russel; a sister: Jewell Horton; and a brother: Roy L. Horton.

Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. today, July 7, at Robert D. Brown Funeral Home, 103 Fourth St., in Hillsboro, followed by a funeral at the funeral chapel. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday, July 8, in Rayfield Cemetery in Lesterville. Memorials may be made to the Hillsboro Food Pantry. Arrangements are under the direction of Robert D. Brown Funeral Home.
