Mary Jane Abel, 72, Festus died July 30, 2018, at her home. Mrs. Abel was a retired receptionist and secretary with the Festus Ford automobile dealership. She also worked at Amour Chemical and U.S. Steel in Selma Village. Born Aug. 11, 1945, in Bloomsdale, she was the daughter of the late Agnes (Roth) and Cletus McClanahan.
She is survived by her husband: Vernon Abel; a daughter Julie Ann (Tim) Copeland of De Soto; a son: Steven (Dana) Abel of Jackson; a sister: Betty (Roy) Leftridge of Festus; two brothers: Vernon (Mickie) McClanahan of Farmington and Dan McClanahan of Bloomsdale; five grandchildren: Megan Copeland, Rachel Copeland, Adam Copeland, Joshua (Kayla) Whitworth and Kelsie (Ben) Whited; four great-grandchildren: Braelynn and Kynlee Witworth and Teagan and Corbyn Whited; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by a brother: Donald McClanahan.
Visitation is scheduled from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, August 2, at Vinyard Funeral Home, 616 W. Main St., in Festus. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 3, at the funeral home, officiated by the Rev. Jeremy Muniz. Burial is in the Concord Cemetery in Bloomsdale. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home.
