Mary Helen Christy, 95, of Festus died June 2, 2019, at Bethesda Southgate in south St. Louis County. Mrs. Christy was a retired unit secretary for St. Anthony’s Hospital, when it was located on South Grand Ave. in St. Louis and later in St. Louis County. She was a devout member of Our Lady Catholic Church in Festus. Born March 25, 1924, in Apple Creek, she was the daughter of the late Regina Marie (Ponder) and Stephen Wibbenmeyer. She was preceded in death by her husband: Ernest Freeman Christy Sr.
She is survived by a son: Ernest E. (Zeonia) Christy Jr. of St. Charles, three daughters: Connie (Jeff) Quinn of Lake St. Louis, Belinda (Richard) Pelikan of De Soto and Karen (Thomas) Pelikan of Festus; eight grandchildren: Chase Christy, Ella Christy, Jackson (Erin) Pelikan, Andrew (Marina) Pelikan, Katy (Jeff) Grimes, Jacquelyn Morton, Christy (Joel) Gass and Jason (Kati) Quinn; and 10 great-grandchildren: Oliver and Gabriel Pelikan, Laura and Zane Morton, Jameson and Stone Quinn, and Megan, Kenny, Joey and Isabell Grimes.
She was preceded in death by six sisters: Philomena (the late Henry) Laurentius, Rufina (the late James Sr.) Martin, Loretta Wibbenmeyer, Ann (the late Donald) Lundry, Genevieve (the late Joseph) Schwartz and infant Dorothy Wibbenmeyer; and four brothers: Sylvester (the late Rita) Wibbenmeyer, Anton (the late Merle) Wibbenmeyer, Theodore (Shirley survives of St. Charles) Wibbenmeyer and Valentine (Marilyn survives of Ste. Genevieve) Wibbenmeyer.
Visitation is scheduled from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 5, at Vinyard Funeral Home, 616 W. Main St., in Festus. Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 6, at Our Lady Church in Festus, 1550 St. Mary’s Lane, officiated by Father Gregory Klump. Burial will be in the National Cemetery at Jefferson Barracks. Memorials may be made to Our Lady Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home.
