Murphy, Marshall

Marshall Dale Murphy, 70, of Montgomery City died Oct. 11, 2018, at the Harry S. Truman VA Hospital in Columbia. Mr. Murphy was a veteran of the U.S Marine Corps who received two Purple Hearts for his service in Vietnam. He was a retired truck driver who enjoyed coffee with his friends, working on old cars and going to car shows. Born Feb. 18, 1948, in St. Louis, he was the son of the late Mildred Ilene (Prate) and Elmer Marshall Murphy.

He is survived by his wife: Sharon Raber Frame Murphy, whom he married Aug. 4, 2014, in Bowling Green; two children: Kenneth Murphy of Colorado and Sarah (Jim) Vuichard of Eureka; two grandchildren: Ella and Amelia; two stepsons: Chris (Rebecca) Poindexter and Jason Frame; six step-grandchildren: Maggie Odom, Audrey Odom, Gavin Poindexter, Asher Poindexter, Devontae Frame and Damien Frame; two sisters: Sharon Chism of St. Louis and Patsy Chandler of Florida; a half sister: Maria Swiney; a sister-in-law: Carol Main of Springfield; a special friend: Kurt Lauer of Jefferson City; and numerous family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by a son: Daniel Murphy; a half brother: Billy Swiney; and his parents-in-law: Lee and Mary Raber.

A celebration of life with full military honors will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, at VFW Post 4436, 600 W. Fifth St., in Montgomery City. Memorials may be made to the Montgomery City VFW or to the Toys for Tots program. Arrangements are under the direction of Schlanker Funeral Home in Montgomery City.
