Marline Elizabeth Bennett, 85, of Imperial died June 24, 2020, at Mercy Hospital South in St. Louis County. Mrs. Bennett was the secretary of the family business, Lee Bennett Plumbing in Imperial, for many years. She was an avid reader, appreciated singing and loved her church family at Barnhart General Baptist Church, where her husband serves as pastor. She also enjoyed cooking, trying new recipes, going to rummage sales, fishing and quilting, but her biggest passion was spending time with her grandchildren – whether her own biological ones or the many other children she enjoyed. She was born April 28, 1935, in Gideon, the daughter of the late Raymond Skidmore and Ruth (Suttles) Strickland.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years: Elijah “Lee” Bennett, whom she married on Oct. 6, 1951; three children: Tim (Patricia) Bennett of Imperial, Brinda Androvandi of Sesser, Ill., and Linda (Ernie) Westberry of Homestead, Fla.; eight grandchildren; 11great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; three brothers: Richard Skidmore, Kenny Strickland and Gary Strickland; two sisters: Wilma Payne and Margie; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by a brother: Paul Skidmore; and a sister: Louise.
A funeral service was held June 29 at White Hollow Church in Clubb. Burial was in the White Hollow Cemetery. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. Arrangements were under the direction of Ruegg Funeral Home in Greenville.
