Phipps, Marjorie

Marjorie Ann “Margie” (Bernhardt) Phipps, 87, of De Soto died Nov. 1, 2020, at Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Crystal City. Mrs. Phipps was a homemaker and a member of Hope United Church of Christ in De Soto. Born Jan. 9, 1933, in a log cabin near De Soto built by her great-grandfather, she was the daughter of the late William C. and Celestine Bertha (Ross) Bernhardt. She was preceded in death by her husband: Dee Troy Phipps, who died in 2014. They were married in 1952 and lived in a number of locations around the U.S. and the world during his 20-year career in the Navy and subsequent years with McDonnell-Douglas. They retired to the family cattle farm south of De Soto.

Mrs. Phipps was preceded in death by three siblings, David W. Bernhardt, William R. Bernhardt, and Louise Muzzey.

She is survived by three sons: Steven Phipps of De Soto, John Phipps of St. Charles and Mark (Laura Sallis) Phipps of De Soto; three grandchildren: Andrew, Caroline and Aaron Phipps; and a great-granddaughter: Zoei.

She was preceded in death by two brothers: David W. and William R. Bernhardt; and a sister: Louise Muzzey.

A graveside service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, at the Christian Cemetery in Fredericktown, officiated by the Rev. Randy Murphy. Memorials may be made to Hope United Church of Christ, P.O. Box 695, De Soto, 63020. Arrangements were under the direction of Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home in De Soto.
