Engelbach, Marie

Marie T. Engelbach, 97, of Pevely died March 17, 2017, at Crystal Oaks Skilled Nursing Center in Crystal City. Mrs. Engelbach was retired from Liguori Publications near Barnhart and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Imperial. She was also an avid quilter, belonging to Scraps and Patches Guild of Festus and quilting for her parish. Born April 1, 1919, in St. Louis, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Elisabeth (Zinnen) Hollerbach. She was preceded in death by her husband: Ervin Engelbach.

She is survived by one daughter: Cecelia (Dennis) Portlock of Barnhart; a daughter-in-law: Carol Engelbach of Barnhart; four grandchildren: Barbara (Michael) Hudson of Kent, Iowa, Robert (Tammy) Engelbach of Barnhart, Janice (Carey) Faulkner of Festus and John (Andrea) Portlock of Barnhart; 10 great-grandchildren: Aron (Jessica) Faulkner, Jessica Faulkner, Zachary Portlock, Connor Portlock, Andrew Portlock, Jennifer (Ryan) Hoyt, Matthew (Cassie) Hudson, Thomas Hudson, Jarred (Heather) Engelbach and Brent Engelbach; six great-great-grandchildren; and one sister: Hilda Schilling of St. Louis.

She was also preceded in death by a son: Raymond Engelbach; two brothers: John Hollerbach and Frank (the late Delores) Hollerbach; three sisters: Gertrude (the late Linus) Hoffmeister, Elisabeth Hollerbach and Irma (the late Frank) Hamilton; a brother-in-law: Walter Schilling; and several nieces, nephews, and friends.

Visitation is scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, March 19, at Vinyard Hillcrest Funeral Home, 9115 Commercial Blvd., in Pevely. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 20, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Imperial, officiated by Father Daniel Shaughnessy. Burial is in the Shepherd Hills Cemetery in Barnhart. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Food Pantry or St. Joseph Catholic Capital Campaign. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home.
