Margie Lea Umbdenstock Mercer, 87, of Danby died Aug. 16, 2019, in Arnold. Mrs. Mercer was a 1949 graduate of Festus High School and worked as a clerk for 22 years at Kohler City Supply in Barnhart. She was a member of the New Testament Baptist Church in Festus, where she helped prepare Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes, and enjoyed quilting, eating ice cream and spending time with her family. Born Jan. 25, 1932, in Plattin, she was the daughter of the late Dollie H. (Ludeman) and Charles G. Moran.
She was preceded in death by her first husband: Neland J. Umbdenstock, to whom she was married for 24 years; and her second husband: Luther M. Mercer Jr., to whom she was married for 30 years.
She is survived by two daughters: Beth (Kenneth) Groom of Cabool and Sherri (Ron) Mercer of Arnold; a daughter-in-law: Sharon Umbdenstock of Festus; two stepchildren: Linda (the late Bill) Oberfeld of St. Louis and Ron (Sherri) Mercer of Arnold;
a stepdaughter-in-law: Delores Mercer of Bowling Green; a sister: Carole (Marvin) Myler of Eureka; seven grandchildren: Patty (Shawn) Smallegan, Jennifer (Patrick) Matthews, Ed (Trisha) Umbdenstock, Neal (Courtney) Foster, Kendra (Devin) James, Ashley (Keith) Dann and Jeff (Trisha Daly) Mercer; numerous other family members and friends; and her pet, Gally Mercer.
She was preceded in death by a son: Frank Umbdenstock; a stepson: Darrell Mercer; four sisters: Bernice (the late Ray) Schollmeyer, Erma Burk, Verna (the late George) Gibson and Viola “Toots” (the late Arch) Martin; two brothers: Charles (the late Peggy) Moran and Gilbert “Bud” (the late Gerry) Moran; and a great-grandson: D.J. Wilkes.
Visitation is scheduled from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 20, at Vinyard Funeral Home, 616 W. Main St., in Festus. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21, at the funeral home, officiated by the Rev. Dr. Aaron Cornman. Burial will be in the Frank Holst Memorial Cemetery in Danby. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home.
