
Lucille Curnutte, 98, of Dittmer died May 22, 2021. Ms. Curnutte attended Pinkley Grade School and Jamesport High School, graduating in 1941. After the start of World War II, she worked for two years as a “Rosie the Riveter” on B-25s in Kansas City. She was also a mail carrier in Dittmer as well as a professional photographer specializing in weddings. She became a Christian at an early age at Lilly Grove Church northwest of Chillicothe, and had been an active member of Morse Mill Baptist Church since the early 1950s. She was a collector of Best Choice barcodes, raising several hundred dollars for the church kitchen fund, and served as the church photographer, taking baptismal photos for many years. After her retirement, she and her husband enjoyed traveling the country in their camper and going to Navy and family reunions and national parks. She enjoyed working on her family’s genealogy, sewing and quilting, painting, working with her flowers, caring for her birds and cats and wearing her signature hats. Born April 26, 1923, in Livingston County, she was the daughter of the late John David Loren Lovell and Edith Ann Elizabeth Clutter. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Oram Curnutte, whom she married on April 1, 1945, in Lake City, Fla.
She is survived by her daughter: Sharon (Gus) George; two granddaughters: Colene (Andy) Jahn and Anna (Jason) Britton, both of Ireton, Iowa; two great-grandsons: Evan and Nathan Jahn; two nephews: Ross (Connie) Stretch of Dittmer and children Kerwin and Kristy, and Daryl (Jeanette) Stretch of Jamesport and childrenKimberly, Brandy and Adam; a niece: Sheryl (Jim) Cox of Carrolton and children Aaron, Kyle and Sean; and many great-grandnieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three infant children; a sister: Viva (Alvin) Stretch; a brother-in-law: Norman Curnutte; and two sisters-in-law: Lee Fischer and Lora Kelly.
Visitation is scheduled from 9:30 a.m. until a funeral service at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 5, at Morse Mill Baptist Church. Memorials may be made to Morse Mill Baptist Church, 6955 State Rd. B, Dittmer, 63023. Arrangements are under the direction of Robert D. Brown Funeral Home in Hillsboro.
