Lorraine Joyce “Chickie” Govro, 85, of Festus died Dec. 1, 2020, at Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Crystal City. Mrs. Govro was a community-minded, active volunteer and a member of the auxiliaries for the VFW Post 3777, American Legion Post 253, Amvets Post 42 and Eagles Post 4341. She also was a member of the De Soto Community Improvement Association Hall. Born April 11, 1935, in St. Louis, she was the daughter of the late Maude Delphina (Craig) and Harold Smith.
She is survived by her husband: Verlon Ray “Pedo” Govro; a daughter: Margaret (Robert) Jones of Bonne Terre; three sons: Lonnie (LaDonna) Govro of Festus, Dale Govro of Festus and Everett Govro of Festus; 11 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; numerous step-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law: Sandy Byrd of Festus.
She was preceded in death by a son: Randy Govro; four sisters: Betty (the late Corbie) Green, Patty (the late Dave) Engel, Shirley (the late John) Childers and Maureen (the late Loren) Brooks; four brothers: Rodney Byrd, Robert Harold (the late Patty) Smith, Paul (the late Edith) Byrd and Richard (the late Pearl) Byrd; a grandson: Keith Govro; and a great-grandson: Collin Whitley.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the funeral services at 11 a.m. Thursday (Dec. 3) at Vinyard Funeral Home, 616 W. Main St., in Festus. Burial will be in St. Francois Memorial Park in Bonne Terre. Memorials may be made to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home.
