Loretta Jean Self, 83, of Festus died Aug. 23, 2022, at Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Crystal City. She worked for many years as a gift wrapper for Famous Barr in south St. Louis County. She also was a custodian for the Windsor School District. She loved playing pinochle with family and enjoyed league bowling. She helped at church dinners and festivals at Our Lady Catholic Church in Festus. Born April 7, 1939, in Festus, she was the daughter of the late Eleanor Frances (Boyer) and Floyd Basil Self Sr.
She is survived by five siblings: Edwin (the late Ruth) Self of Festus, Leo (Elizabeth) Self of Rockaway Beach, Richard (Vera) Self of Bonne Terre, Anna (the late Bernard) Axtetter of Festus and Eileen E. (Harold) Peterein of Festus; two brothers-in-law: Glennon Basler of St. Charles and Wayne Williams of Festus; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by seven siblings: Eugene (the late Opal) Self, Robert (the late Esther) Self, Floyd B. (the late Cindy) Self Jr., Betty (the late Robert) Howard, Joy W. Schweigert, Shirley Basler and Vivian Williams; and another sister-in-law: Genevieve Self.
A memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 12, at Our Lady Catholic Church, 1550 St. Marys Lane, in Festus. Burial will be private. Memorials may be made to The American Heart Association or a charity of the donor’s choice. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home in Festus.
