Lloyd W. Filkins Jr., 74, of Hillsboro died Aug. 22, 2016, at his home. Mr. Filkins worked for AT&T and retired as a lineman with Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. He was a Vietnam-era veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of First Baptist Church in De Soto. He also was a member of the Missouri Fox Trotting Horse Breed Association and of CWA Local 6310. Born March 12, 1942, in Bliss, he was the son of Marion E. (Deering) Filkins of De Soto and the late Lloyd William Filkins Sr.
He is survived by his wife: Brenda (Coleman) Filkins of Hillsboro; a son: Ronald (Deanna) Filkins of Nevada, Mo.; five grandchildren: Dustin, Drew, Derek, Daylayna and Danyel Filkins; and three great-grandchildren: Jaden, Justin and Jeremy
He was preceded in death by two brothers: Ronald M. and Gary Filkins)
A funeral service was held Aug. 26 at Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home in De Soto, officiated by the Rev. Dr. Jeremy Muniz. Burial was in the Woodlawn Cemetery in De Soto. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, 2000 Grace Way, De Soto, 63020. Arrangements were under the direction of Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home.
