Godat, Leroy

Leroy Louis Godat, 97, of De Soto died Jan. 31, 2019, at his home. Mr. Godat was a retired engineer for Wagner Electric Co. and a proud World War II veteran of U.S. Navy. He was a volunteer at the Kingston School District for almost 15 years. He enjoyed amateur radio, designing and building dollhouses, model railroading, feeding birds and caring for his home and his cat, Gato. He loved baseball and bluegrass music and was a country fiddler for several years. Born Oct. 26, 1921, in Richwoods, he was the son of the late Addie (Hill) and Walter Godat. He was preceded in death by his wife: Charlotte (Allison) Godat.

He is survived by two sons: Michael (Claudia) Godat of Blackwell and Ken Godat of Tucson, Ariz.; a daughter: Susan Ferguson of Independence; a sister: Virgalee Shoptaugh of St. Louis; five grandchildren: Larissa, Derek, Morgan, Justin and Shannon; and three great-grandchildren: Paloma, Ian and Leah.

A funeral service was held Feb. 5 at Mahn Funeral Home in De Soto. Burial was private. Arrangements were under the direction of Mahn Funeral Home.
