LeRoy Irvin Castens Sr., 87, of Festus died Dec. 16, 2021, at his home. Mr. Castens had been employed at St Joe Lead Co. in Herculaneum for 32 years and Jefferson Memorial Hospital for 15 years. He was a member of Festus-Crystal City Elks Lodge 1721 and Teamsters Local 688 and enjoyed spending time at his hunting cabin, fishing, playing cards and spending time with his family. Born Jan. 22, 1934, in St. Louis, he was the son of the late Harry and Alverta (Eggers) Castens. He was preceded in death by his wife: Mary (Valle) Castens.
He is survived by four sons: Richard “Rick” (Hazel) Castens of De Soto and LeRoy Castens Jr., Harry (Lisa) Castens and Larry (Melanie) Castens, all of Festus; two daughters: Debbie (LeRoy) Wedde of De Soto and Marilyn (Karl) Fricke of Festus; a brother: Raymond (Rose) Eggers of Bonne Terre; two sisters: Sandra “Sandy” Eggers Page of Mapaville and Yvonne Greenlee of Pevely; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter: Madeline Louise DeClue.
Visitation is scheduled from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 21, at Mahn Twin City Chapel, 515 Collins Dr., in Festus, with an Elks service at 7 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 22, at the funeral home. Burial is in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Crystal City. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association, 1118 Hampton Ave, St Louis, 63139-3196. Arrangements are under the direction of Mahn Twin City Chapel.
