Lawrence "Larry" Leonard, 74, of Hillsboro died on Aug. 24, 2022, at his residence. Mr. Leonard was the owner of Lawrence Leonard Construction Co, specializing in concrete foundations and crane operations. He was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church, a member and past president of the Hillsboro Rotary Club, a Harris Fellow, a member and past president of The Hillsboro Community Civic Club and general chairman of the Hillsboro Horse Show. He served on the board of directors of the Goldman Fire Protection District, was a benefactor member of the NRA, a member of the Jefferson County Republican Club and Safari Club International. Born Feb. 15, 1948, he was the son of late Marvin and Anna (Langford) Leonard.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years: Rebecca "Becky" (Taylor) Leonard of Hillsboro; a son: Nathaniel (Angie) Leonard of Hillsboro; three daughters: Natalie (Mark) Breakfield of St. Louis, Rachel (Brandon) Leonard of Grass Valley, Calif., and Valarianne (Brandon) Clough, of Orlando, Fla.; 11 grandchildren: Ian, Andrew and Grace Breakfield, Colton, Carson, Carolyn and Cade Leonard and Oliva, Blake, Jack and Connor Clough; five brothers: Thomas M. (Peggy Lee) Leonard, Louis F. Leonard, Stephen M. Leonard and Patrick J. (Regina) Leonard, all of Hillsboro, and Charles J. (Barb) Leonard of Barnhart; three sisters: Helen J. (Bob) Gardiner of Imperial, Margaret K. "Peggy" Neisner of Killington, Vt., and Laura (Chris) Bange of Hillsboro.
He was preceded in death by a daughter: Kareline Leonard; a sister: Mary Ann Corrigan, a brother-in-law: Melvin "M.B." Neisner; and two nieces: Stephanie Taylor and Tracy Leonard.
Visitation is scheduled from noon to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 2, at the Hillsboro Community Civic Club, 10349 Hwy., in Hillsboro. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 703 Third St., in Hillsboro, followed by burial in the Good Shepherd Catholic Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Good Shepherd Catholic School or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Arrangements are under the direction of Robert D. Brown Funeral Home in Hillsboro.
