Karen Hammon Brown, 74, of Friedheim, formerly of Festus, died Feb. 7, 2018, at her home. Mrs. Brown attended the Faith Presbyterian Church in Perryville and had been a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Festus-Crystal City, where she was a teacher in the preschool department for 35 years, taught Bible school and served on various committees. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, traveling, collecting antiques and playing cards. Born Dec. 12, 1943, in Desloge, she was the daughter of the late Jewell (Walker) and Roy Rentfro.
She is survived by her husband: Charles Brown. She was preceded in death by two husbands: C. Wayne Anderson and John W. Hammon.
She also was survived by three sons: Scott Anderson Hammon of Festus, Brian (Becky) Anderson Hammon of Festus and Christopher (Monica) Hammon of Springfield; one daughter: Holly Duncan of Glen Allen; seven grandchildren: Paul and Joshua Duncan, Christopher and Lexie Hammon, Chaise Hammon, and Chloe and Eli Vroman; one brother: David (Rosemarie) Rentfro of Hillsboro; two special aunts: Shirley Walker and Bonnie Walker; two stepchildren: Nancy (Kirk) Emmendorfer of Perryville and Mark (Moya) Brown of Columbia; seven step-grandchildren: Nicole Flentge, Adam (Lacie) Flentge, Randi Emmendorfer, Kelly (Matthew) Cardenas, Jacob, Alex and Lucas Brown; and five step-great-grandchildren: Paige and Karter Flentge, Bailey Barnett, Charles Cardenas and Elliot Friedrich.
She was preceded in death by one brother: Thomas Rentfro; her parents-in-law: George and Mildred Hammon; and one grandson: Thomas Duncan.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9, at Vinyard Funeral Home, 616 W. Main St., in Festus. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Bruce Owens officiating. Burial will be at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens in Crystal City. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home.
