Joyce Claudine Schafer, 84, of High Ridge died Oct. 11, 2022, in High Ridge. Mrs. Schafer enjoyed puzzles and traveling and was an avid collector of cookie jars. Born Dec. 23, 1937, in Dent County, she was the daughter of the late Kathleen (Cornelius) and Claude Whitaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband: James Schafer.
She is survived by two children: Gerald (Kelley) Schafer and Roger (Julia) Schafer; eight grandchildren: Jaime (Bill) Hague, William (Kristy) Schafer, Kenny (Jamie) Schafer, Jeff (Gena) Gruenzinger, April (Seth) Hershey, Tracy (Travis) Garcia, Jesse James (Julia) Schafer and Andrew Jackson Schafer; 15 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; a sister: Margie Nash; two nephews: Terry (Sandy Hanson) Nash and Mike (Dallena) Nash; and numerous family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by a daughter: Connie Adams; and four siblings: Lettie Marie Whitaker, Robert (Betty) Whitaker, Kirby Whitaker and Brenda (Gary) Hammonds.
Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, at Chapel Hill Mortuary, 6300 Hwy. 30, in Cedar Hill, followed by a graveside service at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Cedar Hill. Memorials may be made to Mount Olive General Baptist Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel Hill Mortuary.
