Joseph “Junior” Missey, 83, of Blackwell died Oct. 1, 2018, at Washington County Memorial Hospital in Potosi. Mr. Missey was a truck driver who also operated Buck’s Tavern in Cadet and Junior’s in Richwoods. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Tiff, Knights of Columbus Council 5936 and the D.A.V. He also was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of Amvets Post 48 and VFW Post 1831, both in De Soto. Born May 28, 1935, in Fertile, he was the son of the late Mary A. (Bequette) and John E. Missey. He was preceded in death by his wife: Mandy M. (Eckhoff) Missey.
He is survived by four children: Rebecca (Steve) Boyer of Old Mines, Dwayne Missey of Belgrade, Tracy (Mary) Missey of Blackwell and Stacy “Meathead” (Margie) Missey of Blackwell; three siblings: Joseph “Eddie” Missey of Blackwell, Clifford “Earl” (Sheila) Missey of Hillsboro and Theresa (Willard) Eckhoff of Cadet; two sisters-in-law: Rose Missey of Festus and Veronica Missey of Cadet; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons: Jesse Missey and Richard Joseph “Bubba” Missey; three sisters: Freida Walther, Linda Wilkerson and Stella Missey; six brothers: Johnny T. “John” Missey, Joseph Everett Missey, Joseph Melvin “Sam” Missey, Joseph “Peg” Missey, Joseph “Milton” Missey and Joseph “Ivan” Missey; a sister-in-law: Brenda Missey; and two brothers-in-law: Bud Wilkerson and Harry Walther.
Visitation is scheduled from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, at Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home, 220 N. Main St., in De Soto. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 10120 Crest Rd., in Cadet, officiated by Father Anthony Datillo. Burial is in the St. Joseph Parish Cemetery in Tiff. Memorials may be made to the St. Joachim Catholic School, 10120 Crest Road, Cadet, 63630. Arrangements are under the direction of Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home.
