John Joseph Ramey Sr., 88, of Festus died May 9, 2021, at Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Crystal City. Mr. Ramey was the owner/operator of John Ramey Auto Sales and had worked for Union Electric in Festus. He served in the U.S. Merchant Marine and was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Festus and a 60-plus-year member of the IBEW union in St. Louis. He was born Aug. 1, 1932, in Festus, the son of the late Irene (Roth) Scaggs and Ernest “Bud” Ramey. He was preceded in death by his wife: Linda Lee (Courtois) Ramey.
He is survived by two sons: John J. (Nikki) Ramey Jr. and Randy (Lisa) Ramey, both of Festus; two daughters: Lynn (Scott) Weiss of Festus and Leanor “Lea” (Mark) Durand of Hannibal’ a sister: Marcia (Harold) Weiss of Crystal City; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his stepfather: William “Bill” Scaggs; his stepmother: Rosa Lee (Hilsdon) Ramey; and a sister: Katherine Sims.
Graveside funeral services are scheduled for noon Friday, May 14, at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens in Crystal City, officiated by Brother Matt Culbertson, Pastor of Faith Baptist Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home in Festus.
