Jane Catherine Owens, 87, of Escondido, Calif., formerly of Jefferson County, died March 15, 2021, in Escondido. Ms. Owens was an officer manager at Twin City Motel in Crystal City and worked for the Hamilton Shoe Co. in De Soto. For a time, she operated a housekeeping service, and later worked in housekeeping at the Quality Inn in Festus. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Festus. Born Sept. 10, 1933, in De Soto, she was the daughter of the late Stella (Pashia) and Juyel “Joe” Whitter. She was preceded in death by her husband: Virgil Owens.
She is survived by four children: Roy (Kathy) Owens of Escondido, Calif., David (Cristy) Owens of Indianapolis, Ind., Alan (Susan) Owens of Escondido and Rita Owens of Escondido; four grandchildren: Mandi McDonald of Linton, Ind., Jami Fannin of Blanford, Ind., Chad Owens of Terre Haute, Ind., and Sarah Owens of Phoenix, Ariz.; one great-grandchild: Charles Lee McDonald of Linton, Ind.; a sister-in-law: Jean Whitter; and three brothers-in-law: Russell “Dickie” Lewis, Don Byers and Jim Tidwell.
She was preceded in death by four sisters: Rose Byers, Ruby Byers, Barbara Lewis and Donna Tidwell; three brothers: Paul Whitter, Dale Whitter and John Whitter; two sisters-in-law: Jan Whitter and Geri Whitter; a brother-in-law: Earl Byers; and a grandson: Brent Owens.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
