James William Campbell Sr., 79, of Bonne Terre died Feb. 7, 2021, at his home. Mr. Campbell was a maintenance technician with Alcoa Manufacturing in St. Louis until his retirement 17 years ago. He was a member of the Dogwood Chapel in Lake Timberline, Masonic Lodge 119 in De Soto and the Knights of Columbus in Herculaneum. An avid reader of Western books, h also enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling. His dogs, Boss and Buster, were a big part of his life. He was born Oct. 2, 1941, in Festus, the son of the late Arthur and Mary (Witte) Campbell. He was preceded in death by his wife: Marsha Kay (Pruitte) Campbell.
He is survived by four children: James (Lynn) Campbell Jr., Charles (Pamela) Campbell, Sandy (Dennis) Self and Gene (Kathy) Campbell; a sister: Willa King; 11 grandchildren: Bryan, Dillon, Tyler, Jordan, Billy, David, Lance, Riley, Grace, Charles and Cathy; and 13 great-grandchildren: Liam, Lillith-Anne, Braeden, Jayden, Kaylie, Aleah, Jasmine, Emerie, Gavin, Iris, Gage, Lexi and Gwen.
He also was preceded in death by a daughter: Willa Dickerson; a son; Joe Campbell; and a sister: Mary Lee Pappas.
The family plans to hold a private celebration of life at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of C.Z. Boyer & Son Funeral Home in Bonne Terre.
