Rorie, James

James Thomas “Jim” Rorie Sr., 86, of Farmington, formerly of Festus, died Nov. 5, 2019, at Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Crystal City. Mr. Rorie was a retired aeronautics engineer supervisor, and traveled to more than 30 countries while working for NASA. He was a Korean War veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving from 1951 to 1954. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Herculaneum-Pevely,  American Legion Post 253 and VFW Post 5896 in Farmington. He enjoyed working outdoors, caring for his lawn and landscaping, cooking, and traveling, especially to Branson. His dog, Lexi, held a special place in his heart. Born Sept. 13, 1933, in Corinth, Miss., he was the son of the late James K. and Lela May (Mauldin) Rorie.

He is survived by his wife: Fayann Marie (Graham) Rorie; a son: James T. (Diana) Rorie Jr. of Splendora, Texas; three daughters: Lisa G. (Jason) Jetmore of St. Ann, Linda M. (Joseph) Johnson of South Korea and Jennifer (Freddy) Crane of De Soto; six grandchildren: Gwendolyn, Amber, Joseph, Leah, Tommy and Sasha; special nephews Patrick Comte and Ray Bovo; and  special niece Jean Foust.

He was preceded in death by his first wife: Betty Jean (Wasson) Rorie; and three sisters: Vera Comte, Jackie Correa and Kathie Kepple.

A funeral service was held Nov. 8 at Mahn Twin City Chapel in Festus. Burial with full military honors was in Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Crystal City. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 4207 Lindell Blvd, St. Louis, 63108. Arrangements were under the direction of Mahn Twin City Chapel.
