James Howard “Jim” Downing, 78, of Hillsboro died Sept. 30, 2015, at Festus Manor Nursing Home in Festus. Mr. Downing was a service technician for Xerox. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Born Nov. 21, 1936, in La Porte City, Iowa, he was the son of the late Bernice Arlene (Schrader) and George Powell Downing.
He is survived by his wife: Kaye D. Brooks-Downing; two daughters: Jamie Nagel and Lisa Sanders; four sons: Eric (Tina) Downing, James Powell Downing, Justin E. Brooks and Zachary T. B. Downing; three sisters: Betty (the late Richard) Sherrets of Independence, Iowa, Marion (the late Jim) Rice of Moberly and Donna (Richard) Glynn of Waterloo, Ill.; four brothers: Clifford (Marion) Downing of Moberly, Gene (the late Shirley) Downing of Warrenton, David (Lila) Downing of Moberly and Roger (Janet) Downing of Washington; four grandchildren: Alexis Kelley, Alizé Brooks, Kaylee Brooks and Christy Reese; and his parents-in-law: Rosa Lee and Dale Brooks of Boss.
He was preceded in death by a brother: Robert Downing.
A funeral service was held Oct. 4 at Arnold United Baptist Church, officiated by Elder Dannie Patterson. Burial was in the West Fork Cemetery in Boss. Arrangements were under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home in Festus.
