James Daniel Thompson Sr., 72, of Pevely died Nov. 12, 2020, at John Cochran VA Hospital in St. Louis. Mr. Thompson served his country as a sergeant in the U.S. Army with the 11th Armored Cavalry and was a member of the Black Horse Alumni, Order of the Purple Heart, the NRA and Paralyzed Veterans Society of America. Born Jan. 22, 1948, in Cape Girardeau, he was the son of the late Merrill M. and Delaphine (Johnson) Thompson.
He is survived by his wife: Carolyn Thompson of Pevely; four sons: James “Danny” Daniel (Dixie) Thompson Jr. of Sedgewickville, Michael “Shane” (Amy) Thompson of Fruitland, Kevin (Chloe) Byerley of St. Louis and Mark (Krissy) Byerley of Festus; a daughter: Karen (Matt) Sides of Herculaneum; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; six brothers: Bob Thompson of Oak Ridge, Billy Thompson of Marion, Ill., Raymond Thompson of Memphis, Tenn., David Thompson of Morley, Gary Thompson of Memphis, and Jeff Thompson of Marble Hill; and three sisters: Betty Brown and Judy Sproles, both of Nashville, Tenn., and Linda McBride of Dyersburg, Tenn.
He was preceded in death by his first wife: Ida Marie; and two sisters: Ruth Ann Miller and Patricia Faircloth.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 21, at Little Whitewater Church. Burial is in the Thompson Cemetery near Gordonville. Arrangements are under the direction of Liley Funeral Homes in Marble Hill.
