Jack Schneider, 86, of Festus died April 27, 2020, at Crystal Oaks Nursing facility. Mr. Schneider served his country in the U.S. Amy during the Korean War at Fort Hancock, N.J., and graduated from Flat River Junior College in 1957 with an associate degree and from Washington University in 1962 with a bachelor’s degree in education. He taught elementary school for the Fox C-6 School District for 33 years. After retiring from teaching, he worked as a security guard for Dow Chemical for several years and volunteered at Mercy Hospital Jefferson. A devoted father and Christian, he was a spiritual man and involved in many church activities. He was also an active member of Gideons International. He was born Aug. 14, 1933, in Flat River, the son of the late Louis A. Schneider and Olga Marie (Hamors) Huff. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years: Jeannette (Seals) Schneider.
He is survived by three children: Cara (Bill) Akridge of Festus, Bob (Donna) Schneider of De Soto and Marc (Gwen) Schneider of Savannah, Ga.; three grandchildren: Christopher (Lisa) Akridge of St. Louis, Bill (Sarah) Akridge of Festus and Madison Schneider of Portland, Ore.; one great-grandchild: Macy Akridge; an aunt: Bernice Lilley of Jefferson City; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister: Shirley A. Stephen.
Visitation, following COVID-19 guidelines, is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, May 1, at Mahn Twin City Chapel, 515 Collins Drive, in Festus. A private family funeral service will follow with burial in the National Cemetery at Jefferson Barracks. Memorials may be made to The Gideon International Fund, P.O. Box 601, De Soto, 63020. Arrangements are under the direction of Mahn Twin City Chapel.
