Merklin, Herbert

Herbert F. Merklin Jr., 74, of Hazelwood died July 27, 2020, at Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis County. Mr. Merklin was a retired plant manager with Dallas Plastics in Wentzville. He was an intelligent and charming man who loved tinkering with old tractors, farming, gardening, fishing and telling jokes. Born June 8, 1946, in St. Louis, he was the son of the late Helen C. (Leonard) and Herbert F. Merklin Sr., and following the death of his mother from cancer, he was raised by Florence (Pagel) Merklin. He was preceded in death by his wife: JoAnn (Phinney) Merklin.

He is survived by a son: Calvin F. Merklin of Wentzville; five siblings: Richard D. Merklin of Crystal City, Elizabeth (Scott) Berman of Springfield, Joseph L. Merklin of Imperial, Martha M. (Tony) Roemer of Ft. Myers, Fla., and Patricia R. (Paul Buening) Griffaw of Arnold.; as well as a number of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by a sister: Mary C. Merklin.

Mr. Merklin chose to be cremated. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
