Henry Earnest Cords Jr, 84, Herculaneum

Henry Earnest Cords Jr, 84, of Herculaneum died Dec. 19, 2021, at Scenic View Nursing Facility in Herculaneum. Mr. Cords had been a mail carrier for 44 years in Festus, Herculaneum and the St. Louis area. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of St. Luke’s Church of Christ in Barnhart. He also was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 1230, Amvets Post 48 and American Legion Post 253, and enjoyed barbecuing, watching John Wayne movies, reading the newspaper and comics and spending time with his grandchildren. Born July 16, 1937, in Pevely, he was the son of the late Theresa (Coleman) and Henry Cords Sr. He was preceded in death by his wife: Janice Lee (Smith) Cords.

He is survived by two sons: Henry Cords III and Andrew Cords, both of Pevely; two daughters: Cindy (Stephen) Anthonies of Imperial and Elizabeth (Aaron) Russell of Arnold; a brother: Paul (Dorothy) Cords of Barnhart; eight grandchildren: Mason, Brooke, Kaitlyn, Stephanie, Courtney, Larissa, Caleb and Ellee; and two great-grandchildren: Ella and Elijah.

He was preceded in death by a brother: John Cords; and a sister: Mary Nell.

A funeral service was held Dec. 23 at Mahn Twin City Chapel in Festus. Burial was in the National Cemetery at Jefferson Barracks. Memorials may be made to St. Louis Children’s Hospital. Arrangements were under the direction of Mahn Twin City Chapel.
