Gilbert E. Garza, 83, of Poplar Bluff died June 11, 2021, in De Soto. Mr. Garza was a retired automotive mechanic. He was a guitar player, fisherman, hunter and a jokester. Born Feb. 6, 1938, in El Campo, Texas, he was the son of the late Victoria (Esparza) and Manuel Garza.
He is survived by a son: Vince Garza of St Louis; three daughters: Sheila (Scott) Winford of De Soto, Kleta Garza of Jonesboro, Ark., and Tammy Kirkland of Shreveport, La.; nine grandchildren: Noah and Trinity Garza, Kristal Pogue, Kelli Winford, Kalah Sederick, Casie, Kelsey, and Harper Banks and Abby O' Rear; a brother: Ruben Garza of Houston, Texas; and three sisters: Eva Herrera and Celia Moreno, both of Lake Jackson, Texas, and Alex Ramirez of Houston, Texas.
He was preceded in death by two daughters: Toni Garza and Dawn Garza; and three brothers: Ernest “Ernie” Garza, Daniel Garza and Alberto Garza.
Visitation at from 11 a.m. until a funeral service at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 16, at Robert D. Brown Funeral Home, 103 Fourth St., in Hillsboro. Burial is in the Peaceful Meadows Cemetery in Hillsboro. Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children Processing Center, PO Box 863765, Orlando, FL 32886.
