George V. Vaporean, 90, of De Soto died Jan. 4, 2021. Mr. Vaporean, who was born Jan. 9, 1930, was a firefighter with the city of St. Louis and served as fire commissioner in Spring Hill, Fla. He led a life of service, volunteering as a Boy Scout leader for many years; volunteering with the Red Cross Disaster Relief; and teaching in an adult literacy volunteer program. He was a Holy Name Society member and longtime server at his church; the state director of the Good Sam Club, including starting many chapters; and worked tirelessly for the Spring Hill Civic Association. He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years: Mary L. (Wedel) Vaproean.
He is survived by four children: George R. Vaporean, Cathleen (Craig) Blackey, Renee (Don) Wallen and Maureen (Virgil) Yowell; and a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services and burial were private. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Arrangements were under the direction of Kutis Funeral Home in south St. Louis County.
